If you've read the book, dont bother watching the film. The similarities are minimal, the chain of events entirely different, and to be honest, from ten minutes in all i kept saying to myself was "its all wrong". disappointing to say the least.
Like the book. Hated the movie. I remember being in the cinema with some of my friends (we were all roughly 12 at the time) and the only bit anyone (the girls) thought was even remotely interesting was when speelers took off his shirt. although its kinda entertaining in a bad way
This film offers nothing knew to the already overflowing fantasy genre. The effects get some credibility and so too does the locations and the costume design. However, dialogue is a pathetic LOTR "wannabe" style. The film presents no unexpected plot twists which are included in the book. The acting is boring and every scene looks like a "single take" shot. I will say however that for a first time director it is a credible effort, the visual effects come through strongly.
I was wondering why the dvd at my local supermarket was a lot cheaper than an average cinema ticket - after watching I found out - total disappointment to a superb book.
Went to see this film, not knowing any thing about it nor it's story line. Was pleasantly surprised, a very good film enjoyed by my self and my daughter. great for all ages, lots of adventure good clean family film.
