Tue Apr 7 2009The fourth instalment in this nitro-charged, cars-and-girls franchise sees the reunion of Vin Diesel with nemesis Paul Walker. When Diesel’s fugitive is coaxed out of his Panama retreat by the callous murder of a loved one, he traces the culprit to a gang of heroin dealers, teaming up with Walker’s wooden FBI agent. Each has an agenda: Walker overlooks his superiors’ commands to bring the musclebound hunk to book in favour of nabbing a bigger fish; Diesel just wants to get even.
As lads’ flicks go, this one’s not so much a wreck as a mild, harmless shunt. The usual parade of girls flits in and out but it’s the cars that rule the roost; the bone-headed dialogue is just respite from relentless, confusing chases. Turn off your mind, though, and there’s some fun to be had from some of the better whizz-bang sequences.
