Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, the Chadian writer-director of films including 'A Screaming Man' and 'Daratt', is one of Africa's most celebrated filmmakers outside of the continent. His latest film, set and shot in Chad, tells the story of a young man with a paralysed leg who dreams of being a dancer and who takes up work with a gang of petrol smugglers. Haroun's work often looks at the distorting effect of war on a society and the style of his filmmaking is usually deceptively simple, as he searches for the universal and profound in parable-like tales.
