David Cross is better known in the US than he is in the UK. The star of ‘Arrested Development’ and oddball sketch comedy ‘Mr Show’ has been a fixture on the American comedy circuit for a couple of decades, so it’s surprising that he’s only just getting around to writing and directing his first feature. ‘Hits’ is a small-town satire following Dave (Matt Walsh), a middle-aged working man who becomes obsessed with petty grievances against the town council, while his daughter Katelyn (Meredith Hagner) dreams of escaping her pitiful existence by winning a spot on ‘The Voice’. Critics are saying Cross’s film takes easy potshots at obvious targets but remains a witty, enjoyable farce.
