Early 2009, Hollywood

Studio boss
‘Get me a release date!’

Assistant
‘For what?’

Studio boss
‘A film, dumbass.’

Assistant
‘Cool. Who’s in it?’

Studio boss
Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz! Tom and Cam! Cruise and Diaz! Together again!’

Assistant ‘What’s it called?’

Studio boss
‘ “Untitled Cruise/Diaz Comedy Project 2010”. ’

Assistant
‘Catchy. It’s a comedy?’

Studio boss
‘It’s going to be funny.’

Assistant
‘What’s it about?’

Studio boss
‘Cruise is going to be funny. Did you see him in “Tropic Thunder”? So funny.’

Assistant
‘What’s it about?’

Studio boss
‘And Diaz is going to be funny. Everyone loves her. Men. Women. She’s normal. Cute. Maybe a bit grubby. Did you see her in “What Happens in Vegas”? So funny.’

Assistant
‘What’s it about?’

Studio boss
‘It’s going to be funny. And loud. Lots of explosions. A plane crash. Cruise on the roof of a car. Cruise on a bike. Cruise jumping from roofs. The “Mission: Impossible” fans will love it. China is gonna go nuts. India will wet its panties.’

Assistant
‘What’s it about?’

Studio boss
‘It’s going to be funny. And we’re going to travel. America! Austria! Spain! A tropical beach! Oh, and we’ll have some bulls in Seville, doing some crazy running and shit.’

Assistant
‘What’s it about?’

Studio boss
‘It’s going to be funny. Cruise is some sort of agent, Diaz is a regular gal who doesn’t know what the hell is going on. Real head-spinning stuff. For people with little heads. There’ll be a plane chasing Cruise like in “North by Northwest”. Have you seen that? And there’ll be a scene on a train in Europe like another one of those Hitchcocks. It’ll be funny.’

Assistant
‘And… it’s about?’

Studio boss
‘Don’t you think Tom’s teeth are looking great? So big. And white. Oh, and he’s going to flash his six pack. And Cameron ends up in a bikini. Crazy.’

Assistant
‘Is there a script?’

Studio boss
‘Er, yeah, we’re working on it.’

Pile of tosh you've seen before in classics like: every straight-to-DVD action movie.

Summer 2010 TimeOut Editor: Dave have you got that review for Knight and Day you said get to me, like, yesterday? Dave Calhoun: (Oh my God! - my head! - I wish I hadn't stayed up 'til 8am with that group who all wear black polo neck jumpers, drinking absynth and saying everything in the world is shit) Um, yeah boss, it's here. TE: Where Dave? I don't see it. DC: Well, when I say it's here I mean it's here in my head. TE: One Hour!!! DC: (Really can't be bothered with this. Tell you what I'll devise a pretend conversation of how the film got made and she'll accept it. And that, dear readers, is about as valid as Dave Calhoun's effort and I don't get paid to write this rubbish. In the vacuum that Dave Calhoun has left by his pathetic, irrelevant, unfunny 'script' (yeah Dave, thank God you didn't write the script for Knight and Day) let me say that the film is well acted, charming, funny and exciting. If you liked True Lies you'll like this.

It seems there is no dusk between Knight and Day. You either take it for what it is and love it or hate it. I`m a supporter and there rests my verdict.

Pointless film, this review is spot on, Cruise reminds me a bit of John Barrowman and that my friends is not a compliment

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this. Reviews have been hard on the film, but I enjoyed it, and yes laughed a long with it. It's a rainy day film when you just want a bit of fun, nothing deep. It races along and is well made and slick. Forget the arsetight critics who must have been in a foul mood, or are just too serious about their jobs. Get a life guys!!!

Yes its me again. This time i hope this website doesnt create artificial spelling errors that were never committed in the first place! Nice to see the tide is turning in favour of a film designed purely to entertain and cheer you up. Call it fish and chips if you like but cant myself liken the quality of the Diaz Cruise acting to foodstuff wrapped in greasy newspaper. Yes I guess I have a thing for this film because its all about entertaining than gruesome sensational morbidity.

Silly, mean review. The films the equal to a trip to the coast - fish & chips, ice cream and beer. No real nourishment but, once in a while, damn enjoyable. or am I just a simple pleb? Oh well, so be it! 6/10

Dave Calhoun's review is an exercise in overkill. God forbid a film shouldn't be deep and meaningful. Yes, the script could have done with more work but was it worth the one star trashing and the complete denial of seeing a plot? No. Yes, there is a plot and yes it is half decent. The acting is good, the direction is good in fact everything's good except the script's cheese ball ending.... although, this was supposed to be cheesey so maybe I should forgive it that. It's a fun film for a rainy day, doesn't require any deep level thinking and it's a hell of a lot better than eclipse, killers, shrek all of which got 2 or 3 star reviews. Reading the above review I'd say Dave either doesn't know what a light movie is or he has an issue with Tom Cruise.

I read the reviews before and now believe they were totally unrepresentative of this film. Either these reviews were in some way biased or they missed the point of this ilm. This was clearly a great attempt to produce a humourous parody of a secret agent who falls in love with the person he chooses to help him in his quest. Cruise was brilliant. some of the best acting ever from him. Diaz was just as stunning as ever. will always recallnow how well she acted her ignorance in the airctaft loo whilst Cuise set about the villainous contents of the airplane. i am a regular theatre goer and this one is a must for all of those who want to be on the edge of their seat and for the entire film. You will also have a few belly laughs on the way. Please lets have a Knight and Day 2 quickly. Well done Tom and Cameron.

I thought this film would be rubbish but i was agreeably surprised: for once, Tom Cruise managed to act decently and the film was hilarious in some places. Cruise and Diaz worked very weel together and it was entertainning from the beginning to the end. Great comedy if it is was you looking for.

When is that Homer Simpson/Ron Howard 'Time Travelling Pie' project finally hitting the big screens?

Daniel

LOL, nice one Dave. The film has been out here in Sweden for several weeks. It really is a stinker, I can't believe Mangold directed this excuse of a film, it's not funny and all the action is poorly edited. It deserves to go straight to the bargain bin.
