Time Out says

One of those sub-Graham Greene tales of redemption in exotic climes (actually based on a story by Sartre, L'Amour Rédempteur), with Morgan as a chic tourist stranded in a Mexican village when her husband suddenly dies of meningitis, and Philipe as the drink-sodden doctor regaining his self-respect in the ensuing epidemic (not to mention her arms). Busily atmospheric, it strains mightily after a sort of sweaty eroticism (a key scene being one in which Philipe has to give Morgan an extremely painful lumbar injection), with the bleak and dusty locations often strikingly shot by Alex Phillips; but despite the valiant efforts of both leads, the central relationship and redemption theme are ludicrously spurious.
