Alexandre Aja’s laughable reworking of the 2003 Korean film ‘Into the Mirror’ shatters the illusion that the French director of ‘Switchblade Romance’ and the remake of ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ may be a major new talent. The only thing less believable than the ridiculous plot is the over-acting of moonlighting ‘24’ star Kiefer Sutherland.

On the plus side, the fire-ravaged department store where Sutherland’s alcoholic ex-cop now works as a security guard is impressively creepy. Alone at night with its scorched mannequins, he sees stuff reflected in its mirrors that he cannot believe. And neither can we. Then the evil spirits trapped behind the glass somehow escape and attack his estranged wife and children in their home. But not before he’s tracked down a once-possessed nun, who tells him about the asylum that pre-dated the store where disturbed patients were subjected to an experimental, mirror-based shock treatment. This is without question the dumbest horror movie of recent years. There is simply no way to piece together its fractured shards.

I can't understand why some people claim to hate this movie- this is by far the best american remake film. I much different than the original and so much more improved!! I Idea of mirrors and reflections just have so much potential the original one lacked to use. I've seen boths movies to make a compairison. 5* for Music 5* for mirror effects 5* for Kiefer Sutherland only disappointment: break in the story through the "monster" By the way- the ending was so awsome. It was nearly the same as original, but because nobody spoke, just the music became more and more climatic, just ending with the blanc handprint- it leaves spaces to imagine. I guess haters just want some obvious splatter movie that are so common they'd fell comfortable with so that they don't have to use their brains. They don't have an eye for truly good psychological horrors.

It was ok in a Saturday night popcorn movie kind of way . Any movie with Kiefer in is going to be watchable at least . A few creepy scenes here and there , just don't expect too much !

I can't believe I rented this film, let alone sat through nearly 2 hours watching it. I like Keiffer Sutherland but I agree with the Time Out reviewer this time....laughable. it was absolute rubbish. No consistency of plot, nothing really made any expalanatory sense and what does the ending mean? That there will be a sequel! God, please no! I wanted to rate it 0 or half but the minimum is 1. Shambolic!

i thought it was actually a realllllyyyyyy good film. It scared me shizzless lol, i know it seemed a pointless story line, but it was actually really good when put into perspective. probably the scariest i've seen , despite exorcist lol it was good in eyes. lol i thought the ending was bad, i didn't want it to happen, but it was clever :) i loved it. Recommend it to anyone lol.

I thought the film was very good, made me jump a few times, but that is what horrors are supposed to make you do. I would certainly recommend it.

It was flimsy and made not much sense, but it was entertaining in its own silly way... What annoyed me was the pathetic 'working in' of his wife in the most ridiculously hookerish outfits ever (she works in a morgue, for god's sake) which had me swearing under my breath. And yes, Kiefer Sutherland totally over does it, but I suppose he is used to it being Jack Bauer most of the time. I'd say - officially crap but entertaining anyway!

I go to the cinema at least twice a week, this film is bad, not worth watching, it's looks like an american remake which it is" shock" it is not like the strangers or the asian ring1 2 or 3, don't know who thought that. it more funny than anything and where did the lady come from! i mean a mirror that can kill you, what a pile of crap! my four mates thought the same. not worth the money, if you want something with some grit and grime see saw 5 that will be at least a bit nervy not like this bad film.

Nigel Floyd and other pro-reviewers should stick to commenting on pretentious Romanian/French/Russian subtitled yawn-inducing dross. This is ENTERTAINING! Go to watch with a critical eye and there's plenty to pick at, but I don't go to films to criticise - I go to be entertained and this film succeeds.

Watched this film yesterday. Its only downside is that the plot could be tighter and the film shorter. Apart from that, whoever has liked the "Ring" and likes Asian Horror will love this film. The script comes from a Korean original and it's so refreshing compared to the usual US crap. Some comment that the plot has no explanation. Again those who know about Asian films will know that these cultures believe even today in curses which do not make any sense to Western Europeans. The approach is also different than ours: instead of trying to rationalise "why" you must simply deal with it and survive (which most often than not does not happen!). So, sit back and enjoy. The music theme is also great: a romantic-haunted piece named "Asturias" from the 19th c.

OK, it has it's moments, but overall muddled plotting, implausible concepts and loveable leads make this an unconvincing film and probably best watched with fairly low expectations.

I thought it was really good. If you don't get into it at the start, then you'll won't enjoy it. I would watch it again.

jessica
