This spectacularly shoddy follow-up to the fairly dismal original replaces Martin Freeman – who has gone on to considerably bigger and hopefully better things – with David Tennant, who looks decidedly miffed to be appearing in a glorified school panto. He plays Donald Peterson, whose stewardship of a rambunctious and weirdly non-age-specific class at a primary school in Coventry is made more difficult by the intrusions of hirsute, worryingly ‘playful’ man-child Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton). But it’s not long before the two join forces to enter a national singing competition, heading off to Wales to sing forgettable, autotuned ballads, emote wildly in caves, chuck kids off mountains and behave in ways that would get any real teacher arrested.
With a plot that feels like it was jotted down on a beer mat, direction straight from the BBC daytime television school of visual splendour and a soundtrack crammed with saccharine festive pop, ‘Nativity 2’ offers roughly as many laughs as the Queen’s speech.

  • it think it was a great film overall but i was a bit dissapointed with the comedy in it because unlike the first one it didn't make me laugh very much at all. I found it hard to sit through all of it but it got 4 stars because mr. poppie saved once again. overall a good film to go and see but i would wait until the dvd reduces.

  • Not sure what people who gave this a good review were watching? I think they have either written a review for the wrong film or were stone drunk while they watched it. Honestly save your money its the worse film I have ever gone to cinema to see!

  • This film is a really fun festive family treat and David Tennant is as excellent as always! They're already auditioning for Nativity 3 and I can't wait! We loved it and will be buying the DVD too!

  • I am in cinema watching this film with 4 teenage daughters and their mates. The only thing keeping me from leaving is curiosity as to whether it can redeem itself in any way. Nope - no redemption. Worst film ever seen. And that includes time I was taken to Police Academy 5. Please avoid this shoddy tripe.

  • Quite possibly the worst movie I have ever had to sit through. What is David Tennant doing in this drivel?

  • What a miserable review! I took my (teenaged) daughters to see it last night and we laughed all the way through it! It's very funny, so get off your high-horse and enjoy it for what it is: a funny, charming Christmas film.
