Time Out says

Shot in Britain but set in the supposedly wacky Bohemian world of Greenwich Village, this dull attempt at an offbeat and sophisticated romantic comedy falls flat on its face, thanks largely to the usual sluggish direction from Arthur (Love Story) Hiller. Opportunis-tically cast (Beatty had just been cited as co-respondent in the Peter Hall-Leslie Caron divorce), Beatty and Caron try hard as the down-at-heel 'adult' movie-maker and the French widow looking for a father for her baby son, while the rest of the cast do their best; but a dismal script by William Peter Blatty leaves them flailing in the dark.
