This vibrant, entertaining Christmas-flavoured 3D cartoon brings together a quintet of benevolent kids’ characters – Santa, Jack Frost, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and the Easter Bunny – for a showdown against every child’s worst nightmare: the Bogeyman. Despite a hectic storyline, some hit-and-miss comedy and a hammer-it-home message that Santa et al do indeed exist (they do, kids, really they do), it’s still one of the most enjoyable festive family films of the past few years.First-time director Peter Ramsey’s sharp eye for detail is evident in the dazzling animation. The characters, too, are well rounded and mostly likeable, none more so than the mute, Yoda-like Sandman, who wields the film’s prettiest special effects. ‘Rise of the Guardians’ is an effervescent dose of fantasia that’s pretty hard to dislike. Unless, of course, you’re a cynical grump.

  • Brilliant film well worth watching ecspecially in 3d it was amazing well worth the money spent on this film my advice would be to go and watch it 3d

  • This was a great wee movie, I took my grandaugher aged 7 to see this we both loved it, not too keen on 3D but 2D was fine. I would rate it 4 star.

  • Our family loved it. the local cinema was only 2d but this didn't seem to detract at all. great story with a few scary bits for the young children and plenty of action. not quite sure who the sandman is but his character was great. well worth the ticket price.

  • Fab, sparkly film - gorgeous animation - good characters - lots of funny bits :) Probably not for the very young as quite a lot of story going on. All Christmassy films seem to be cliched in someway (earlier comment) - what's the problem with that...? My v old teenagers thought it was great. Yetis and Elves were well excellent designs. Loved it and am going back to see it in 3D :) :)

  • Agree with scrumpy the at times excellent 3D makes it worth, just a 3 star film. In 2D it would be a decidely average 2 star film. Throw in enough cliches to make the director of a regional panto blush and the obligatory British bad guy and we get a film that runs through the cliches of naff children's films in that as long as one child believes there is hope. Behind a colourful and pretty exterior lies an empty vacuum of a film. Five out of ten if generous and the 3D lifts it a point to a poor but just about 3 star flick. Throw in Alec Baldwin wth the worst accent ever in a film means more laughs at the film than with it.
