Time Out says
Primarily a vehicle for Richard man-called-horse-lost-in-the-wilderness Harris. It's a formula pursuit Western, Harris starting out as reason-loving, gun-hating sheriff, ending up seeking revenge for his wife and son killed in a bank hold-up. Once south of the border, the excuses are all set for what the film's really about: a comedy of cruelty for us, seemingly a masochistic indulgence for Harris. He's beaten by a mob, almost lynched, and temporarily blinded before he exacts his revenge. The perfunctory questioning of the morality of revenge lacks any real conviction; Taylor as the villainous bandit leads an uninspired wild bunch; and the film never more than plods along under the weight of Harris' long-suffering performance.Author: RM
