The Uninvited

By straightening out Ji-woon Kim’s Korean horror movie, ‘A Tale of Two Sisters’, the Guard Brothers have made it more coherent and psychological, yet less dislocated and disturbing. Fresh from psychiatric hospital, Anna (Emily Browning) is welcomed home by her rebellious sister Alex (Arielle Kebbel) and recently bereaved father (David Strathairn). The latter is receiving therapy from the late mother’s live-in nurse, Rachel (Elizabeth Banks). Sadly, the sisters’ conspiratorial closeness is undercut here by a superfluous suitor, Matt (Jesse Moss), who claims to know the truth about the night Anna’s mother died.

The sisters suspect their step-mother, but what looks like a standard ‘home invasion’ scenario skews off into a world of hallucinatory dreams, body parts and floating ghosts. As in the original, the film slyly manipulates the audience’s perspective, and a brilliantly filmed climactic ‘reveal’ marks this British duo as a pair to watch.

A film with some great ideas and a nicely played lead, but ultimately it tries a bit too hard and the twists are kinda signposted, having said that a couple of times it will make you jump, but not enough to want to see it again.

OK I just got back from seeing The Uninvited...This is a really great movie, a lot of mystery and the end really throws you for a loop. This is one of the best movies I have seen so far, I would go see it again, the critic who rated this movie must have been asleep to only give uit to stars.... i loved it woooooo hoooooo♥
