So immaculate and rich was the idea behind the first ‘Toy Story’ movie – the anxieties of a box of retro toys – that releasing a similar sequel worked like a dream. Seeing the film ten years later – and in the mighty shadow of Pixar’s recent masterpieces – the film feels a little chaotic, safe, tired on its feet: deficiencies that remastering it in 3D (which adds less than nothing to the viewing experience) serves to expose rather than conceal. I know, saying you’re not a huge fan of ‘Toy Story 2’ is like admitting you don’t like throwing snowballs or eating ice cream, but the familiarity of the characterisations and the story arc (not to mention the smug humour) make this a film of great moments rather than a brilliant whole. Still, the scene of Jessie the Yodelling Cowgirl singing about being dumped by an owner is a complete heartbreaker and a clear forerunner to the riskier material that Pixar would tangle with in future projects. In short: 3D, go home!

  • This amazing animated film by Pixar shows amazing characters and a side splitting humourous laughter all the way through. My litte daughter (aged 9) thoroughly enjoyed this spectacular expeirence and has watched it again and again. I personally, thought it was one of the best children's fims I have ever watched. And trust me, I have seen a lot. So, what I'm concluding is this is the bestest film ever! :]

  • This was great, it looked so perfect in 3D, the stereo-scopic addition was immaculate. David Jenkins, lighten up, sit back and enjoy Pixar's classic ride.

  • My goodness Mr David Jenkins after reading your review I would genuinely believe that you don't enjoy either throwing of snowballs or ice cream. You may wish to avoid bakers early in the day as well..!
