Elbow’s Guy Garvey will be joined by guests from Radiohead and New Order for a special broadcast of his BBC 6 music show from Manchester’s Central Library.

The musician will be hosting his ‘Finest Hour’ programme on Sunday September 6 between 2-4pm in the library’s Performance Space and chatting with Radiohead’s Phil Selway and New Order’s Stephen Morris about the literary influences that have inspired their work. There will also be an interview with Jim James from My Morning Jacket and a live acoustic performance from US rock group Heartless Bastards.

During the show, Phil Selway will present Central Library with a drumkit in memory of Radiohead’s drum technician Scott Johnson. Since Scott’s tragic death at one of Radiohead’s concerts in 2012, the band’s management company and Scott’s family have been distributing drumkits across the world to give young people the chance to play.

The kit will join the music instruments collection in the Henry Watson Music Library for the use of library visitors.

Guy’s broadcast is part of a family entertainment day at the library which will also include a Minecraft mask-making event in the Media Lounge, a chance to create your own bunting and a series of sing-along story sessions for under-fives and their parents.

The special Sunday opening also marks the launch of the Central Library Development Trust’s ‘Library Lovers’ scheme which gives members the chance to sign up for exclusive events, previews and discounts in the shop and café.

Central Library, Sunday September 6, 12noon-4pm.
