The hotel of choice for visiting actors, politicians and Premiership footballers, the Lowry is Manchester's original five-star hotel. The address may be Salford, but it's located right on the City Centre's edge, on the banks of the murky River Irwell. Everything is as it should be - huge, achingly hip rooms with super-sized beds, original modern art, discreet service and clued-up staff. A swanky spa and the serene River Restaurant are further draws.
