Housed in an 18th-century textile merchant's home and the recent recipient of a major makeover, this collection is the largest of its type in Britain (but with only a fraction of the 20,000-plus items on display).
High fashion from the 17th century to the present is represented, and the contrasting selections of working attire from the neighbouring South Asian community are also interesting.
