Founded in 750, San Giorgio was rebuilt in 1129 and heavily reworked in the 17th and early 19th centuries. Among the neo-classical trappings are a baptismal font fashioned out of a Romanesque capital and a couple of pilasters from the original church at the far end of the nave. Don't miss the vivid Scenes from the Passion of Christ cycle by Bernardino Luini (1516) in the third chapel on the right. Commissioned to decorate the whole church with frescoes, he fled Milan after killing a clergyman critical of his work.
