Milan's original trade fair was set up near Porta Venezia in 1920 in an effort to kick-start an economy that was slow to recover from World War I. As fair events grew, the structure was moved to its current address, expanding as permanent pavilions were added over the years. Of the original buildings, only a portion of the Palazzo dello Sport (1925) and a few art nouveau edifices near the beginning of via Domodossola still exist.
