Easton, Pennsylvania is the birthplace of the Crayola crayon, so it’s only fitting that both kids and parents can get lost in a world of bright colors and creative adventures while visiting the new Crayola Experience—the space, formerly known as the Crayola Factory, reopened after a three-month renovation on Memorial Day weekend and is a perfect day trip spot for NYC families (it's only 90 minutes from the city). At the 60,000-square-foot attraction, families will have the chance to customize their very own Crayola marker, see how crayons are made and even create a coloring page with their face on it. Also on tap: A jumbo Crayola Store featuring every Crayola item ever imaginable, the Café Crayola (chow down on colorful cupcakes and design-your-own pizzas) and two birthday rooms where kids can celebrate their big day.

There are 18 attractions throughout the four-floor space, but here are eight that your family won't want to miss.

Crayon Factory
At this live theatre show, kids join an expert Crayonologist and two animated Crayola crayons named Scarlet and Turk to learn (and watch) how crayons are made. Keep an ear out for fun tidbits about Crayola's history. For example, Crayola still uses the same formula to make their crayons as they did in 1903 and all crayons go through strenuous testing, including passing through an x-ray machine and metal detector. Make sure to grab a brand-new crayon, or a “newborn” as referred to by the Crayonologist, before leaving the show.

Wrap It Up!
Here, kids can scope out all of the cool Crayola color names while also personalizing their very own Crayola crayon label. Use one of the machines that represents different Crayola colors, pick a symbol and type in whatever you would like your label to say. Press print and wrap the label on your crayon. One of our favorites was Shocking Pink, a bright pink Crayola color.

Be a Star
This attraction takes photo booth fun to a new level: Choose a background with your favorite Crayola character and then strike a pose in front of the camera. (The camera counts down so that you can make sure your crew is completely ready for the shot.) Once you approve of the photo, simply press the green button and a coloring page with your child's face on it prints out right next to you.

Marker Mania

At this area, kids get to be their own marker makers by picking out two different colors and then watching as a custom color is made. The marker comes out of the machine looking like it just has two separate colors that meet in the middle—wait a while, though, and watch as the colors mix together and move down to the marker's tip.

Color Playground
On the third floor of the megapsace, kids let loose on the jumbo play area—little ones can complete an obsatcle course, climb across a bridge and wiggle down a slide. Mini-artists can also doodle on the tile floor with chalk or on the white animal structures with washable markers.

Meltdown
Kids sit alongside jumbo crayons and use melted crayon wax to paint their very own pictures. The best part: Picking and choosing from the tons of colors available.

Drip Art
This area is guaranteed to bring parents back to their childhood (remember Spin Art?). Rather than using traditional paint for the project, the drip art machines use melted wax from the crayons. Kids pick out their favorite crayon colors, take off paper from a special machine and then watch their crayons melt into a design. Choose how fast or slow the machine spins to create different looks for your project.

Toddler Town
Even Crayola’s littlest fans have a place of their own at the day trip spot. The space features a giant light-up colored pegboard (a favorite of almost every toddler we saw!), an oversized ball maze and fun mirrors.

The Crayola Experience is located in Easton, Pennsylvania—90 minutes from New York City. Go to crayolaexperience.com for information on hours, ticket prices and directions.
