The ceremony before ThaipusamFor years the The Waterfall Temple Commitee begins the Thaipusam festival by paying a homage to the original shrine at the waterfall on Waterfall road (Jalan Kebun Bunga). Itís also the original location of the Murugan Temple by the early Indian settlers in Penang hundreds of years ago. The present temple was located after it was realised as a water catchment area in the 1850's. It has since been a restricted area and a week or so before Thaipusam the present temple board makes a trip to the shrine to pay homage to where it all started. It is an area seldom seen or not at all by most. Words and photos by Leonard Selva.
