Although there are no green leprechauns, so to speak, Healy Mac's does keep to its Irish theme closely with the now familiar Irish green colour for its wood-based, somewhat rustic interior. The combination results in an oddly welcoming ambience. Generous with drink, the pub has a long beer and drinks menu to please almost every palate but as if you're in an Irish themed pub, go for a Guinness draught or a lovely ale, we say!
There are always promotions happening here and their lengthy happy hour that begins quite early in the afternoon (especially on Sunday) adds to their popularity. Although this is the first branch in Penang, Healy Mac's is already known in Kuala Lumpur as a place to unwind not just wth friends but with family and their pub grub menu such as pork knuckles, Australian steaks, sausages and mash, is quickly becoming a favourite among locals as well as the expat community.
To whet your appetite, order a jug of draught beer at RM33++ during their happy hour along with a generous portion of fries for RM12++ and a sausage platter of four juicy flavours of Hungarian to Emmenthaler which is enough for two that comes with sauerkraut and mash. The combination of these three is, in a word, bliss! Not to mention companionable and substantial to boot.
What seals our approval of this bar and restaurant is their friendly, attentive staff and for the guys, it is, unfortunately, the sports on flat screens that dot the place. So, be warned, although it's a great place to nurse a tipple or two, this is not a place for a first date (or a date of any kind). On Sunday afternoons, it's also a quite pleasant venue to sit with a book and a huge meal washed down with a cold, creamy glass of Guinness draught. Kitty Kaye
