Short of whales and sharks, Bali Hai pretty much lives up to its motto of ‘if it swims, we have it’; it’s got rows and columns of tanks housing a myriad of live seafood. Here, the focus isn’t on any extravagant culinary virtuoso, but rather on the freshness of its seafood, which cooked any other way than simply, would be masked. It’s no high brow place, but the kitschness of the neon lighting and decor has come to be tolerated and expected of seafood restaurants. In the morning, it also operates as a dim sum eatery.
