Truly, organic food have never tasted this good. The cafe's within the Real Food organic grocery store in Straits Quay retail mall and its pleasing interior shaped by clean lines and light colours serves to enhance the dining experience here.

Now, the philosophy behind this meat-free café is that their food are all made from scratch and using, as far as possible, only organic produce. Before you discount it, let us introduce to you their burgers from RM19.80. They’ll definitely change your perception of how burger patties must be beefy.

Our choice is the Portobello herbs burger at RM26.80. What’s goes in between lightly toasted, dense burger buns is a large, meaty, juicy Portobello mushroom coated in homemade herbs batter and fried in organic sunflower and sesame seed oil. Then, it’s layered with organic lettuce and a touch of homemade soy mayonnaise. The result is a juicy burger with a terrific crunch and even more satisfying than most beefy burgers we’ve tasted.

Next up, we choose a communal dish of organic pizza at RM28.80 that’s topped with organic seasonal vegetables with pesto base – you can, of course, choose to have tomato sauce based. What appears is a colourful, appetising medium-sized pizza with a homemade thin crust made out of organic flour topped with three types of mushrooms, tomatoes, pineapples, onions and olives. The real beauty of this pizza is, you won’t even notice that it’s cheese free because there are vivid colours, textures and flavours to distract you.

Finally, we choose banana pancakes at RM22.80 from their all-day breakfast menu that doubles as a dessert pretty well too. This one’s a stack of pancakes that seem to form one thick piece topped with seared, sweet local bananas and drizzled with raw maple syrup. In a word, it’s yummy! Not to mention comforting and thankfully, the overwhelming buttery-sweet flavour so often found in pancakes is missing in this one.

The point is, all these food taste as how they should – tasty, vivid and filled with textures. Their portions are just right. This means that you’ll leave the table happily filled and not bursting at the seams. Their menu does extend to snacks such as dumplings, organic fruit rojak and fried bean curd from RM8, pasta dishes of either fusilli or penne, salads, soups, organic brown rice that’s either fried or baked and noodles from RM16.80

If there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss, what would it be? Their latte of freshly brewed organic coffee and soy milk. It’s the best one we’ve tasted so far. There’s a nice balance of bitter, creamy and thick. Ah, no words can describe it, you’ve simply got to taste it for yourself. Go on then, this place is a must try. Su Aziz
