This time it will discuss the material world of the hajj in Colonial era in Southeast Asia delivered by Eric Tagliocozzo who is a professor of history at Cornell University. Highlights of the talk will include the economic connection of pre-colonial Hajj and how they brought this region into a wider orbit of contacts across the historical Indian Ocean and looking at careers of eminent Hajjis such as Sheykh Yusuf of Makasar. This event is organised by Penang Heritage Trust and Think City, and it is part of the Penang Story Conference: Penang and the Hajj.
