Cat people of Sydney, rejoice. We’ve discovered a secret cat café in Eastwood, and trust us when we say that literally everything from the Japanese desserts and cat-shaped broth sukiyaki to the decor and cutlery is cat-themed. Literally. Everything. And if you're lucky, you can cuddle up with the owners’ friendly felines when they make occasional visits on the weekend.
The moment you step inside Nekotaro, you'll be transported to a realm of cuteness overload, where every inch of the restaurant exudes cat-inspired charm. However, that’s only the start of the fun.
Nekotaro’s menu gives Japanese comfort classics a twist with everything from cat-shaped soup bases and chocolates to paw-shaped waffles. So fur, so good right? Well, it only gets better with their signature sushi tacos and doughnuts in flavours like spicy salmon, panko prawn and grilled eel, or their wagyu sukiyaki (hot pot) set with a frozen cat-shaped soup base, your choice of wagyu beef or pork belly, mixed vegetables, udon noodles and two types of dipping sauces. You can also delight in all your favourite Japanese staples including deluxe sushi platters, tempura, udon, sashimi dons and curry omurice.
Nekotaro brings the famous Hong Kong-style egg waffle to its dessert menu, along with a honeydew melon shaved ice bowl (bingsu) and red bean soup with kitty dango (rice flour dumpling). P.S. If it’s your birthday, you can score a free dessert when your table spends $50 or more.
