The Sitter

Jonah Hill achieved something close to deadpan-comic perfection in Moneyball, so it's disappointing to see him back in his foulmouthed, insult-slinging comfort zone. Regression is the defining characteristic of The Sitter, which sends Hill's horny but good-hearted college dropout on a drug-chasing, nocturnal adventure through Manhattan, a trio of annoying kids in tow. Exploding cocaine canisters and oral-sex jokes aside, David Gordon Green's painfully unfunny film somehow manages to seem less dangerous than the more-than-two-decades-old Chris Columbus comedy it's ripping off. (Adventures in Babysitting at least had the good sense not to bring its sanitized high jinks to a halt every few minutes for disingenuous heart-to-hearts.) After Pineapple Express and Your Highness, is Green now contractually obligated to revive every dead comedic subgenre of the '80s? What's next, a stoner-friendly License to Drive?
