Festivals & events in Berlin

An impressive calendar of cultural extravaganzas and colourful carnivals

Festivals & events in Berlin Karneval der Kulturen - © Daniela Incoronato
By Nickolas Woods

The multicultural Karneval der Kulturen and the annual Christopher Street Day Parade are summer celebrations of the city's cultural diversity. The Berlin International Film Festival brings a welcome bit of glitz. Throughout the year, an assortment of trade fairs such as ITB Berlin and Popkomm rotate through Messegelände.

At the other end of town, the May Day Riots are Kreuzberg's rite of spring. Twice annually, the Lange Nacht der Museen brings to life the exhibits in Berlin's museums. In summer, the city buzzes with open-air concert programmes. And at Christmas, ice-skating rinks and seasonal markets spring up all over.
