Eight family friendly activities for October half term

Do the words 'half term' fill you with dread? Are you worried you'll be stuck indoors with nothing to do? Well, fear not - whether you want to do something spooktacular with the kids or simply embrace the great outdoors, we've got you covered.

Here's a round-up of eight kid friendly activities for this half term:

Half term Halloween fun at Tyntesfield

It's Halloween half term at Tyntesfield House and that can only mean one thing: fearsome fun for all.

There'll be a spooky Halloween trail, eerie arts and crafts, a torchlight tour, a spooky woods adventure and pumpkin carving fun, too. Don't forget to dress up!

'The Bristol Giants' book launch

Goram & Ghyston: The Bristol Giants

How much do you know about the legendary Bristol giants, Goram and Ghyston? Rumour has they're responsible for many of the beautiful landmarks that surround the city and the world beyond! 

To find out more, pop along to Waterstones at Cribbs Causeway for the launch of the brand new children's book, 'The Bristol Giants Save Christmas'. Author Oliver Rigby and illustrator Tom Bonson will be in attendance to sign copies. Oliver will also be doing a number of readings.

Nature loving activities at Windmill Hill City Farm

There's lots going on at Windmill Hill City Farm this half term. Along with an Halloween themed outdoor cooking session with The APE Project on October 27, a Spooky Puzzle Island activity in the wildlife area on October 28, you'll find and a Halloween activity day with face painting and other spooky activities on October 30.

If you aren't keen on Halloween, the half term break will also feature natural craft activities, farm tours and a pizza making day, too.

Family storytime at Arnolfini

From October 20 until October 31, Arnolfini will be holding a number of splendid storytelling events. Highlights include 'Bedtime Stories' family shows on October 24-25 in conjunction with Bristol Circus City, and a Family Halloween Storytelling Boat Trip on October 31.

Half term train rides at Avon Valley Railway

Avon Valley Railway

The Avon Valley Railway offers a whole new experience for some, or a nostalgic memory for others as you hop aboard the Heritage Diesel Train. Turn up during half term with the kids in fancy dress and they'll get a train ride for free.

Free range outdoor fun at Leigh Woods

Explore the beautiful and diverse woodland on the plateau above the famous Avon Gorge, boasting superb views across the city. Leigh Woods is a fantastic place to go and run off steam, cycle, walk and indulge in a bit of leaf kicking.

A historical walk around Redcliffe

Enjoy a guided walk into the once autonomous township of Redcliffe from M Shed, and get better acquainted with historical Bristol. On your stroll, you'll pass landmarks like St. Mary Redcliffe church and Temple Meads railway station, as well as tucked-away gems like the Hermit’s Cave and the remains of the city’s Water Gate.

An 'Inside Out' inspired afternoon at Watershed

Inside Out

Watershed is inviting families to take part in an exciting interactive event based on Disney Pixar’s latest animation 'Inside Out', as part of Bristol’s Family Arts Festival.

A screening of the film will be followed by a range colourful games and activities that the whole family can get involved in.
