Once an uninspiring department store better known for school uniforms than stylish clothing, Arnotts has completely reinvented itself as a vast and gleamingly modern department store. An array of electrical goods, cookware and affordable fashion outlets fill the floors - it is here, for example, that you'll find Dublin's only branch of GAP.

Today my girlfriend and her family went into Arnott's shopping. After making several purchases in different departments, with excellent service, very attentive staff. They decided to visit the lingerie department. My girlfriend's mother wanted to get fitted for a bra. They sat in the fitting room as instructed to by the staff. They all sat on a sofa as her mother got fitted by one of the staff members. From the moment they met by the "lady" that did the fitting things got very uncomfortable. She welcomed them with "Oh we must be having a Chinese day!!" as my girlfriend is of Asian origin. This set the tone for the rest of their shopping experience. The "lady" that was serving them snapped at my girlfriend "can you translate what she is saying". She was obviously uncomfortable with non-Irish customers. She also snapped that it was a waste of space as the family took up the whole sofa in the fitting room, with their Arnotts shopping bags. When my girlfriends mother decided she only wanted one of the bras this "lady" was visibly disappointed and annoyed they had wasted her time! In the end they bought two quite expensive bras, she finished the sale with "this must be big buy for you"
So even though the overall shopping experience was excellent in Arnotts, this "lady" went out of her way to show her disgust at serving a non-irish customers, she spoilt the whole experience. So much so they will never shop in Arnotts again.
