Set near the National Art Gallery, Greene's is now one of Dublin's bookish landmarks. An impressive number of literary giants have walked through its doors over the years, including Behan, Yeats and Beckett. Greene's is well known for its good selection of new, second-hand and antiquarian books. The storefront has changed little since 1917.

For a small investment of time you can have a James Joycean moment. Be sure and arrive before the published time of the public reading of Joyce's works as seating is limited in this tiny gem of a book shop. But I dare you not to find more interesting books than you can carry on your travels, so you must choose. Hours can be irregular as it is run by an organization of Joyce devotees. Clare St close is close to many other sites such as Merrion Square Garden, Leinster Parliament, National Museum.
