Originally an Edwardian railway hotel, the Caledonian Hilton is often cited as Sir Sean Connery's Edinburgh favourite. Hilton manages the property but sold it in 2007 to new owners, who initially announced a rolling, multi-millionpound refurbishment programme; 89 bedrooms were revamped by 2008. There are still whispers about a covered courtyard and a much-needed upgrade for the leisure facilities. Until that happens, the rooms are generally modern but in sympathy with the hotel's origins.
