A New Town Georgian fantasy of a hotel, the Howard occupies three adjacent buildings that date to the 1820s. You can almost imagine King George IV fiddling with the television remote while Mrs Fitzherbert dallies in a voluminous, free-standing bath. There are butlers to look after you, modern comforts alongside period fixtures, and one of the city's most discreet dining rooms: the Atholl. It's as romantic as anything; no wonder it's so popular with honeymooners. Even if you're not staying here, try to pop in for afternoon tea.
