This popular attraction was founded in 1955 by local councillor Patrick Murray, who made sure that visitors understood the difference between a museum of childhood and a museum for children. While grins of recognition are usually spread wide across the faces of kids-at-heart of all ages, older generations may enjoy their trip down memory lane more than pre-teens. While there are hundreds of bygone toys on display, many displaying a level of craftsmanship absent on today's shelves, there's a lack of the kind of interactivity that 21st-century kids are growing up to expect from museums. That said, a few early automaton boxes - the Haunted House, Sweeney Todd et al - do provide entertainment. There's a small shop at the entrance; check online for details of guest exhibitions.
