Royal Museum

Royal Museum review Rate it

The Royal Museum is in the throes of a Herculean reinvention (due to finish in 2011) and now forms part of the National Museum of Scotland. The beautifully airy main hall, with its wrought-iron 'birdcage' construction, is worth the trip alone. Although many more exhibits will be on show by the time the work is complete, there are still thousands to enjoy in the meantime. There are currently three floors of displays, and while some are rather dated - the stuffed tigers look particularly sad - they have a peculiar charm. The Connect Room is more up-to-date, housing a rocket, Dolly the sheep, interactive robots and energy transfer machines. It gets very busy, so be prepared to queue.
