Recently renovated, sprawling Fort Kinnaird is home to dozens of familiar stores, including Marks & Spencer, Toys R Us, H&M, Monsoon, Next and Edinburgh's only Borders. The leisure venues were demolished as part of the facelift, but there are plenty of cafés inside the stores.
Open 10am-8pm Mon-Fri; 9am-6pm Sat; 10am-6pm Sun.
A very utilitarian sort of place, not pretending to have either charm or character.
But full of big brand shops, with large displays, including some, such as Hobbycraft or Harveys Furniture Store, not available in the city centre.
Big enough that some even drive from one part to another - parking is free, but at busy times it can be hard to find spots.
Designed more for the determined consumer, both shopping and fast food, it's a great place if you have a car, know your way around, and know where you want to be ... not such a pleasant experience for those without a car, wishing they didn't have to go all the way out there for just that one shop, or those looking for a more varied shopping experience.
