An often very funny blend of road movie, buddy-buddy comedy and thriller parody, Johnson's film is short on visual delights (it was made for TV) but full of fine performances, strong throwaway lines (courtesy Stan Hey), and deft off-the-wall touches. Shea and Henry make for a good double act as the US air force man and the soul-crazy Liverpudlian DJ who find themselves pursued by cops and murderous mobsters as they travel from Merseyside, via the Lake District, to the Essex coast. Lively, sharp and fast, it also features a wondrous Tamla selection on the soundtrack.
