Dazzlingly masterminded by Jacques and Pierre Prévert, first generation Surrealists both, this is not only the movie that Buñuel wanted Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie to be, but also one of the most laceratingly funny provocations ever launched in France. A guileless old tour proprietor trumps his new-fangled rival by offering a genuine mystery trip; the takers are a crowd of eccentrics and dropouts from all backgrounds and classes, who find themselves experiencing all their wildest dreams and fears as they follow their truly arbitrary itinerary. Jacques Prévert's effortlessly brilliant dialogue points up the fact that the comedy is founded on benign-but-tough assumptions about eroticism, social attitudes, and revolution. - Posted on Dec 28 2009 07:38 For me this is one of the best films I have ever seen. Imagine if you will Battersea in winter 1979. Ice on the pavement, grotty bedsit to go 'home' to- but I saw from TimeOut that Voyage Surprise was on at the Electric in Portobello Road. I went to see it and 30 years on I still remember this movie (the brothel scene had me in tears of laughter). Saw it again at the Barbican in the '80s.and it was still just as good. I would love to see it again before I die - please can someone release it on DVD!!
