Windhorse (1998)
Director: Paul Wagner, Thupten Tsering
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A very different take on Tibet from Scorsese's Kundun, this contemporary drama focuses on young people living under Chinese rule today. A girl pursues a pop career; her brother takes a shine to a young Western tourist. Initially apathetic, they are confronted with the limits of their freedom when their sister (a nun) is arrested and beaten. Shot clandestinely in Tibet and Nepal as a drama of conscience, the film is rudimentary, but offers a fascinating and authentic glimpse of an oppressed society.Author: TCh
