Folks! (1992)
Director: Ted Kotcheff
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Jon Aldrich (Selleck) has a solid job on the Chicago Stock Exchange, a spacious home, lovely wife (Crewson), two kids and a dog. Then, one day, his perfect life is thrown into chaos: while he's visiting his sick mother (Jackson) in Florida, the FBI invades his office to investigate insider trading, freezing his private account in the process. No money means no nursing care for Mom, but worse is to come when Jon visits his senile father (Ameche), who burns down his own home in a fit of forgetfulness. All Mom and Dad want is a swift journey to that trailer park in the sky, and when Jon is enlisted to help their (abortive) suicide attempts, a series of signposted accidents leaves him sans sight, toe and testicle. Masquerading as a commentary on the greedy '80s, this is clearly the sort of moronic comedy beloved of the Weekend at Bernie's team of Kotcheff and writer Robert Klane.Author: CM
