Back Roads (1981)
Director: Martin Ritt
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Pleasantly old-fashioned romantic comedy in which two losers meet cute - he's a broken-down boxer, she a hooker angrily throwing him out after belatedly realising he's broke - then set off on a road movie odyssey through picturesque redneck locations in search of a new life. Very good on local colour but a bit sugary in its attitude to the central relationship, it would have been better taking a bleaker cue from Tommy Lee Jones' admirably dry performance.Author: TM
