Another retro drama from the director of Cosy Dens and Divided We Fall, this is a rock'n'roll rebellion yarn with musical interludes. Adapted (like Cosy Dens) from stories by Petr Sabach, and set among another of Hrebejk's barely contained family units, it's a rumbustious story of young love, street fights, bullying and political intrigue, some of it stirred up by the arrival of a high-quiffed stranger wielding a guitar. The pastiches of and genuflections to the likes of West Side Story are decent, though the musical sequences are too busily cut. Worse, the piecemeal story is hard to follow.Author: NB
