Bowdlerised but pleasant enough adaptation, by George Axelrod, of Truman Capote's novel, with Hepburn rather too winsome as the Manhattan callgirl Holly Golightly, who has an on-off relationship with Peppard's writer, himself juggling an affair with a (Neal) wealthy patroness. The party scenes and intimations of hipness now look dated, and it's all rather too sugary for its own good (Henry Mancini's award-winning 'Moon River' being symptomatic); but taken as a shallow fairytale it has a certain charm.Author: GA
