Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis (1997)
Director: John Henderson
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Marty Starr (Mayall) is a bullying record producer. In 1980, Marty discovered mousy Mavis Davis (Horrocks), and threw her back to the world as glamorous Marla Dorland. Now he's in trouble: Marla's sales aren't flourishing and she wants out of the contract. But debt-ridden, disaster-prone Marty has a plan: an early death would be the perfect end to Marla's career, and the rebirth of his. Horrocks seems unaware that this is not some ditzy ad, but the unforgiving big screen; her warbling is neither bad enough to be entertaining, nor good enough to engross. As for Mayall, he never stops being Mayall, and thus deserves every cheap line he gets. The sterling presence of Aiello as a mobster only adds to the embarrassing sense of resources being frenetically whooshed down the drain.Author: CO'Su
