Chisum (1970)
Director: Andrew V McLaglen
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The range wars, Wayne-style; and a piece of Western revisionism to compare with The Green Berets for its articulation of the Duke's right-wing ethos. John Chisum here is on the side of the angels, with both Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid riding for him against capitalist competition. No mention of Chisum's own expansionist, monopolistic approach to the land; no mention of his subsequent hiring of the ageing Garrett to kill Billy. Enjoy veteran William Clothier's superb cinematography and wait for the next re-run of Peckinpah's version in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.Author: PT
