Gypsy (1962)
Director: Mervyn LeRoy
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Blowsy, miscast Technirama musical, with Rosalind Russell as the horrendous stage mother Mama Rose. Ethel Merman had a Broadway triumph with the role, but Russell is horrendous. As her unfortunate offspring, Ann Jillian isn't really there as June Havoc, and Wood doesn't have what it takes as stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. On the plus side: songs by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim.Author: TCh
