Maximum Risk (1996)
Director: Ringo Lam
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A standard Van Damme pic, competently assembled but with little of the manic edge found in director Lam's Hong Kong movies. In the tradition of Double Impact, we get two action heroes for the price of one. Retired French soldier Alain discovers his unknown twin dead on the streets of their home town on the Côte d'Azur. The corpse, for reasons too convoluted to explain, is Mikhail, a runner for the gang bosses of New York's Russian community. To find the killer, Alain poses as Mikhail and probes the underworld of Little Odessa. Along for the ride is Henstridge, taking care of titillation as Mikhail's girl, while the likes of French law enforcer Anglade and Russian Mafia kingpin Hemblen ensure we never want for over-ripe supporting performances.Author: TJ
