This depicts the angst of schoolboy Dennis P (Andersen), who tries to come to terms with the death of his father by retreating into a Grease-meets-Strictly Ballroom fantasy life, inhabited by an all singing and dancing supporting cast. In truth, his mother blames Dennis for his father's suicide, his teacher considers him a no-hoper, and his two best friends, Mick and Karen Elise, share a secret that will break his heart. First time director Arthy handles the obsessions of youth well enough - the lack of pubic hair, compulsive swearing and unrequited love - but the 'three wishes' plotline and the level of absurdity involved in its telling slightly detract from an otherwise perfectly fine rites of passage film, adapted from a play by Kim Fupz Aakeson.Author: MD
