Monkeybone (2001)
Director: Henry Selick
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Directed by Henry Selick (Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas ) and based on Kaja Blackley's graphic novel Dark Town, this is a bust, but at least it's different. Fraser is cartoonist Stu Miller, on the verge of hitting it big with his creation Monkeybone, a wisecracking simian monster from the id. Stu is too principled to cash in, but ends up in a coma after a freak accident, and his consciousness is transported to Dark Town, a purgatory from which Monkeybone escapes to wreak havoc with his body, not to mention his girlfriend's. The design is often brilliant, although the film is nowhere near as tasteless or funny as it ought to be.Author: TCh
