Moonrunners (1974)
Director: Gy Waldron
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Essentially an extended car chase laced with nuggets of wisdom dispensed by a moonshiner from way back (played by Arthur Hunnicutt, creating an island of watchability in the surrounding mishmash). Moonrunners assembles a crateful of familiar ingredients - the banjo-picking accompaniment, the car chases, some thick-ear rough stuff, a plot making gestures toward supporting the rugged individualist against the syndicate - all articulated with minimum atmosphere and maximum country-style mugging. It lacks even the slightly redeeming oddness of The Lolly-Madonna War; and James Mitchum gives an especially charmless performance in the lead, making his final words about 'going to Nashville to become a star' ring extremely hollow.Author: VG
