Saroja

Dedicated to those who suffer the inhumanity of war, this protracted first feature follows former Tamil Tiger Sundaram (Maheshan) and his daughter Saroja, aged seven, on their flight to the jungle to escape the Sinhalese army. Wounded and fearing he'll die, Sundaram sends Saroja (Kandasamy) to a Sinhalese village in the hope that, despite her origins, she'll be given refuge. Varuni, a girl of the same age, discovers Saroja and persuades her teacher father and more resistant mother to help, with fateful repercussions for everyone.
